so i have been using protools m-powered 7.1 on my pc for a short time now...i keep having issues with it freezing...and recording properly...almost every time i hit the record button on the transport it freezes for about 20 sec. then when i hit the play button it freezes again. when the program resumes, it has taken itself off record and the record button is no longer blinking?? is this a software issue or is this something on my computer that isn't set up properly..i went to the digidesign web site but it was no help...
thanks so much any advice would be greatly appreaciated

that might be a processing problem.

it could be that is what i was thinking...but i am only talking one track here..my computer only has a celeron processor but i have 2 gigs of ram and sufficient space on my hard drive...i checked out the cpu usage while it freezes and it is only using like 4% of the cpu when i try this function in protools....i downloaded an update but still nothing.....any help is much appreaciated
i f**king hate pc's i used to have a g4 but unfortunaly it was stolen...it took me almost a year to get back on track...and save enough for a shitty pc....

yeah, PCs are definetly more problematic for any type of recording software, especially pro tools. i dont know why, but pro tools runs sooooo much better on a mac, it rediculous.
but damn, if you have two gigs of ram and plenty of hard drive space, there shouldn't be a problem...have you tried uninstalling it and re-installing it? sometimes thats all it needs.
sorry i couldn't be more helpful, i've never worked first-hand with pro tools without being with somebody that completly understands the program.
good luck with getting that shit working.

save your sessions somewhere that's not inside pro tools.
just make a new folder in your documents or something and save them there.

Hey are you using 2 separate harddrives. you should have one with the software on it and one where the audio files are (preferably brand new and really fast). I have M-powered 7.1 with 1.0 gig ram and a AMD Athalon 2gig processor and it runs really sweet even with Reason running in the back for the beats. Only time I have a problem is if I have to many real time FX working (like 8). Also if your hard drive is kind of old you may need to defragment to get it up to optimal speed.
