hey Bluevelvet, i dont know jack about protools, so i cant tell you exactly what, but im pretty sure you dont want to hook up to protools in midi. midi isnt actual sound that you can hear. its a bunch of information that describes a note or series of musical notes. for that information to produce a sound, you got to have something that interprets that data into sound. mpc recognizes different pads to different midi notes, like note A3 might correspond to pad 1 and so on. so if the mpc gets a message to play note A3 at whatever volume, then it plays the sound thats assigned to pad 1. so if you record midi into protools, you would have a bunch of information about how to play the sounds still on your mpc. if you ran that midi back to your mpc it would play what you want on your mpc. if you want to get the actual sounds we hear into the protools, use the sound output jacks on your mpc. like what you hook up to your monitors or your mixer. get those running so the signal goes into protools, and then monitor the sound thats coming off your pc to check all your levels and what not.
hope that helps man, good luck

definatly know what midi is, but thanks anyways...just been having trouble linking the two up with my sound card and the mpc outs via AUDIO cables and MIDI. so when i press play/record on the MPC it automatically stacks the track in PT...i think i have basically figured it out on my own now though...it has been a long time since i posted that comment
peace

in PT, go to Setup/MIDI Studio, and create an Instrument for the MPC 1k then click on Setup/MIDI Beat Clock/ check Enable MIDI Beat Clock for, and select the instrument created for the MPC 1k
i had an MPC 1k a while ago that a friend lent me, and i didn't do anything in the MP, i just hit play and it started playing along with MP, i might be wrong but it started playing for me everytim i hit play in PT. In the 2500 i have to go the MIDI synch page and select the input MIDI slave in order for it to play along.
hope i explained it clear enough for you, if you sstill have problems gimme a shout
