ive just got a nice new laptop (windows xp), i used to have a 4 year old desktop (also xp). Im using Sony Acid Pro 6.0 and on the old desktop i used to be able to plug my mic (sm58) right into the mic jack on the soundcard and everything would work out fine. now with the laptop i either get:
1. a flat buzzing sound with no peaks when i yell into the mic or
2. really quiet sound with a buzz over it...
i went to this music store and they were trying to tell me that i NEED to buy a mixer or it wont work at all and that it shouldnt have been working before...
can anybody help me out??? i would love a cheaper option. thanks
p.s. the mic, cable, and adapter from 1/4 to 1/8 jack are all brand new....
