I'm trying to find out how to get them 808's and subs to sound like them cats down south. Like Jazzy Pha and Mannie Fresh type sounding joints. The ones that are on a key with the music not just a 808. I have plenty of 808's but I'm looking to find out how they get them to drop like that. They sound like they playing keys but it's all 808's. I pretty much have the latest sound modules like the Fantom , trinity , proteus 2000 , Motif keyboard and 2 mpc's 2000 and 200xl plus a few other secret weapons but I don't know how they do it. Is there a few tips that could help me find what I'm looking for. If so thanks in advance and I can share any tips and info I have to offer also. www.myspace.com/banginazzbeatz

When I do get the chance to lay mean basslines I definately use the keyboard for bass. I simply mess around until I get the melody...If I wanted the bass to be the focal point I would do one shots...I hit the first 808...2nd and so on,,,once i got the melody sequenced then I'd layer over it with some more 808's...one thing else you could try it messin around with some flanger(effect) if it has any presets I'd try them all and they give you some nice transitions in the bassline.

The best thing you can do with thick 808 909 basses is compression. Without it misses the real punch!
